It is awarded by Conlegno (cork wood services consortium), a Control Body recognized by the European Commission that certifies the correct use of the LegnOK Due Diligence System according to the regulation pursuant to art. 6 of Regulation (EU) no. 495/2010.
The EUTR regulation affects all operators and traders who deal with wood and wood-products coming from both EU and non-EU countries.
The regulation opposes the trade in illegally logged timber and timber products through three main obligations:
- prohibits the placing on the EU market of illegal timber and products derived from it;
- obliges operators who place such goods for the first time on the EU market to observe the “due diligence”, by adopting measures to verify the legality of the same;
- obliges traders to keep a register with the names of suppliers and customers to ensure product traceability.
